How I Got Started
Many people have asked how I got into sandblasting glass. Well it started one day when I was looking for bird feeders on the internet and found this beautiful hummingbird feeder made from an inverted wine bottle with hummingbirds and flowers etched into the glass.
I was intrigued by the etching and decided I needed to figure out how to do glass etching on my own. I first tried the usual acid etching that can be found at the craft stores but wasn’t happy with the results and knew there had to be a better way. More searching on the internet and I found the process called sand carving. I was instantly hooked. I was overwhelmed by all of the equipment required for what I wanted to achieve but I was determined that this was what I was going to do so I did.
Now after 6 years I’m still addicted to this art and I’ve only scratched the surface. Recently I’ve started glue chipping glass and soon I’ll be adding gilded glass to my arsenal. I truly have a lot of fun doing what I do and I enjoy the satisfaction that I’ve created something for others to enjoy.
